Press Release Summary: Bangalore, April 22, 2008: IMTMA, the nodal association of machine tool industry in India today unveiled Modern Machine Shop 2008, a new international business-to-business exposition which for the first time brings together the entire array of machines, equipments, products and services that enable facilitation of a modernised shop floor. The first event of its kind in South India and South East Asia, the exposition will present a one-stop shop for manufacturing sector especially for SMEs with special emphasis on technology and innovation to derive competitiveness. MMS 2008 will serve as a new platform that would allow the SMEs at the bottom of the supply chain pyramid to forge partnerships with system integrators, service providers and customers. The maiden edition of the event will be held between April 25 th-29th at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
Press Release Body: MMS 2008 will have 111 exhibitors including 24 from 8 countries (Italy, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Turkey & UK) including group participation from Germany. There will be high level business delegations from ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association), Indian Railways and Indian Ordinance Factories besides special teams from OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). The value of the exhibits alone will be in excess of INR 40 crores and the participation is from across the spectrum allowing visitors an unique opportunity to see the latest in manufacturing prowess and technology besides services, under one roof. According to N K Dhand, President, IMTMA, "Machine tools constitute half of the total investment in a new manufacturing facility and thus constitute the single important decision for any new facility. The opportunity to see the entire components of the modern shop floor and the latest in each component of the entire manufacturing chain was hitherto not available and we conceptualized MMS 2008 as a platform to fill that gap. The focus on SMEs came about as we realized they formed the crucial bulwark of the sector and such an opportunity would be of even more value to them and hence the focus on them in the exposition."
"MMS 2008 is held at a time when the manufacturing sector is continuing to be buoyant in India and needs to be globally competitive and adjusts itself to the fast changing technology and other trends in the sector. That is why you would see even enterprise software and CAD/CAM players in the exhibitor list. This combined with the visit of high level business delegations and teams from OEMs make it a platform of true value. We invite the Indian engineering and manufacturing to make use of the platform and collectively enhance our competitiveness to compete equally in this global market," he further added. Commenting on the machine tool industry, Dhand, said," The sector is posing healthy growth and India is likely to become the 10th largest market for consumption globally for machine tools in the near future. Consumption of machine tools touched INR 7,500 crores in 2007-8 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 25-30% over the next 5 years. The industry is likely cross the milestone of INR 10,000 crores sometime this financial year which will be an occasion to celebrate and a turning point in the industry's chequered history. However, there are challenges like continuing dominance of imports and level of technology adoption which we are proactively addressing through various initiatives of IMTMA. We hope to play our role in the manufacturing resurgence of India and Indian corporate sector." IMTMA on the occasion announced the plan to set up machine tool parks in 2-3 places across India through a SPV (special purpose vehicle) based on the PPP (public private partnership) model. The parks would co-locate machine tool companies & their supply chain units to achieve long-term capacity expansion, technology up-gradation and market development. The association is seeking support from government for creating the park infrastructure and the industry's contribution is likely to be 60%. MMS 2008 will have Interactive and 'live' demonstration of exhibits. The exhibitor's profile is quite diverse and encompasses every possible aspect that a manufacturer would require. There will be free entry into Pragati Maidan (through Gate No. 2 & 7 and even from Gate No 1) for business visitors and AC shuttle facilities from Gate to Halls. There are user friendly pre-exhibition registration facilities, including online registration, a visitor helpdesk, an exclusive protocol lounge for VIP visitors and an exclusive media lounge equipped with internet-ready workstations for media representatives. MMS is planned to be held every alternate year. Founded 60 years ago, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers\' Association (IMTMA) is the apex body of machine tool industry in the country with a membership of over 300 companies from both, the public and private sectors.
